Anatomy of Cartoons: The Spice of Life and The Secret Life of a Naturist

I like the process of creating cartoons from the writing to sketching to the final version of what I envisioned in my mind. These cartoons were started at the HRM Making Comics Group on February 15th. I had my tablet with my scripts for The Spice of Life # 81 and The Secret Life of a Naturist # 112. I did very fast sketches in the two hour alotted before continuing in my studio. I fleshed out the pencil work a little more and once I was happy with the result, I inked them and erased my pencil marks. The next step is the colouring process which always begin with the flesh tones and then shadowing. That then gets blended to smooth it out and I can then proceed with the hair and clothing. Once all of my colours are done, I scan each page and then process the title and speech balloon and add a colour filter to make it pop with my publishing tool. The finished product makes it stand out when adding to my social media platforms. I hope you enjoyed a behind the scene look at the creative process. As always, stay creative and Naked. Fabien

  1. I have been to unofficial naturist resorts in Malta, mainly Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, Gnejna Bay and San Blas Bay on our sister island of Gozo but there are always some people just to watch even though they are nude as well. The males vastly outnumber the males and sometimes I’v e even saw them masterbate!

    1. I would say you were on the wrong type of beach. Nudity in Naturism does not and should not equate to sex unless in the privacy of your home or bedroom. Not on a beach.

  2. I’ve been suffering from eczema and other skin problems since time memorial; in fact my parents always told me that after birth they kept me in hospital for another week.
Whenever I used to visit a doctor’s clinic it was always,”Strip naked (inza bil-patata barra in Maltese) and our grandmas used to tell us they were rude to tell us to strip naked, and when the doctor happened to be British they always said that British doctors were not Catholics!
One time I even asked my mum whether Dr Borg was a Catholic; at those times we were “perfect” because we were Catholics while other s were not!
Once my mother even told me that even grown ups sometimes had to remove their clothes!

    1. Hello Eugene, I come from a large Catholic family (last of eleven). Nudity was always a no-no and I did not come about it until very late in life. We are brought up to be ashamed of the naked body yet, if you look at the art of the great masters like DaVinci, Michelangelo or Raphael nudity was commonplace. Art groups today are always looking for Life Models to pose for them. I do that as well on occasion. Don’t be ashamed or made to feel bad about nudity. All the best, Fabien
