Why Nude Photos are Important to Naturism

  1. Excellent article, and the point is well-made that pictures ARE our best ambassadors. Unfortunately, particularly in the US, where few nudists are able to be nude outside their own home or at a nudist resort, photo opportunities are few and far between. Unless a person is an “official” photographer, accompanied by resort staff, they risk permanent banishment if they are caught taking pictures with an “unauthorized” camera in a nudist resort.

Nobody wants to see 20 nude pictures of me at my computer, and being able to get someone to take pictures of me enjoying myself at Cypress Cove isn’t going to happen. Even though pictures of ordinary nudists enjoying normal activities at a resort would be our best “advertising”, that isn’t going to happen. Most people would be scared that, even if pictures could be taken, that they would fall into the “wrong” hands, and there could be serious repercussions.

I was at Cypress Cove for the World Record Skinny Dip last year, when there were some “official” pictures taken, and some people stayed out of the pool because they were afraid they might be identified.

We won’t be able to start “normalizing” social nudity until we are able to start demonstrating with pictures that our activities aren’t “sexual” or “lewd”, but until we start changing nudists culture so that they no longer are afraid of being seen, we won’t be able to take the kinds of pictures that we need. This is another classic “Catch-22”..
